Pipes Singapore: The Manufacturing Standards
Pipes Singapore: Types And Uses
Pipes are hollow cylinders or tubes to convey liquid, gas or finely divided solids. There are different kinds of pipes: copper-nickel alloy pipes, steel pipes, plastic pipes, cast iron pipes, PVC pipes etc.
Pipes are widely used in different ways i.e. domestic water systems, pipelines, scaffolding, rollers in conveyor belts, bearing casing, compactors, casing for concrete pilings, high temperature processes, oil well casing, oil refinery equipment, construction of high pressure storage vessels and the like.
Pipes Singapore: How They Are Manufactured
Pipes are manufactured based on standards. It can be international or it can be dependent on national and industry sector levels. The standards for pipe suppliers are based on pressure-temperature ratings, coatings, markings, sizes, designs, dimensions and tolerances, pattern tapers, connections, materials and threading. Codes, though limited in scope, have been identified by Singapore pipe suppliers as requirements for the fabrications, tests, utilization of materials, design and inspection of the pipes and the whole system.
It is known that there are nine widely recognized standards in the manufacturing of pipes. The most common is the ANSI(American National Standards Institute), a non-profit organization that promote American Standards. This organization uses “schedule numbers” which are identifiers on the wall thickness of pipes manufactured in Singapore. These numbers play a significant role in determining the use of the pipes for pressure purposes.
Another standard being used by pipe manufacturers in the country is that of British Standard Pipe. Its main focus is the pairing of an external screw thread type tagged as “Male” with that of an internal screw thread called “Female”.
These are the two international standard implementors which have been adopted by Singapore’s pipe manufacturers in order to comply with international standards. It is known that Singapore has government interventions in all of the country’s activities more so, with its industry sector. With the implementation of these standards with no deviations whatsoever, Singapore pipe manufacturers can definitely compete in the world market.
